I Tried Cutwater’s New Chocolate Espresso Martini—And This One Hack Is Essential

Not to sound dramatic, but I really had no idea that Cutwater’s new Chocolate Espresso Martini would become my second favorite flavor from the brand. I truly didn’t. I’ve had their regular Espresso Martini flavor on several occasions and I don’t remember being that impressed. The Chocolate Espresso Martini on the other hand? Sheesh!

I’m not a big chocolate fan, and I just knew that the chocolate flavor in Cutwater’s new addition was gonna hit harder than a fun-size pack of Hershey’s bars during an after-Halloween sale. It didn’t. Remarkably, the chocolate was subtle. The espresso flavor still came through strong, and there was the faintest hint of chocolate. A Willy Wonka whisper, if you will.

The White Russian is easily my favorite, but the Chocolate Espresso Martini definitely had all the elements from the White Russian that I love. It wasn’t afraid to be boozy (13% ABV), it was creamy without going into full on dessert mode and it wasn’t cloyingly sweet. Overall, I’m giving Cutwater Chocolate Espresso Martini an 8.5 out of 10.

I do have a little hack for Cutwater’s Chocolate Espresso Martini (and other canned cocktails from the brand). It’s actually super simple and basic, but it’s absolutely necessary. You’re not gonna serve the Chocolate Espresso Martini on ice and you’re not gonna drink it straight out of the fridge.

What you’re going to do is toss it in the freezer for at least an hour (or long enough for there to be little ice specks in the drink). It comes out of the freezer deliciously cold and with small pieces of ice that won’t dilute your drink. Me personally, I like to drink my frosty Cutwaters straight out of the can (with a coozy, of course). But you can serve the Chocolate Espresso Martini in a martini glass. My suggestion is to top it with a cold foam (vanilla or caramel-flavored) to really elevate the experience (similar to this).

Lastly, you really can’t lose with the Cutwater price point. You can purchase Cutwater Chocolate Espresso Martini at TotalWine.com for $10.99 for a 4-pack. (Prices will likely vary if you purchase a pack in person.)
