I Tried Both of Chili’s Cherry Limeade Margs—And My Favorite Tastes Just Like a Boozy Shirley Temple
Chili’s revealed some pretty exciting news this month, announcing a first for one of its beloved Margaritas of the Month. For September, the restaurant is bringing back its Cherry Limeade Marg, but this time around you can pay a few dollars extra to get the drink swirled with Chili’s Patrón Frozen Marg.
Available for the entire month of September, the $6 Cherry Limeade Marg is made with el Jimador Blanco Tequila, Triple Sec, Monin Grenadine, house-made sour, and Sprite. It’s then finished with a citrus sugar rim, lime wedge, and two cherries.
With two Margarita of the Month options at Chili’s, I of course had to try out both to find my favorite.
Cherry Limeade Marg
In my notes, I labeled the Cherry Limeade Marg as the “tamer option.” Honestly, I have no idea what I meant by that lol, but I will say that this marg tasted less boozy compared to the one with the Patrón Frozen Marg swirl. Tastewise, the cocktail was a bit reminiscent of a Cosmopolitan with some tart cherry undertones. I love a good Cosmo, so I was digging the taste. And yes, like most MOTMs it was a bit on the sweet side.
Sadly, my garnish was already pretty submerged once it arrived to my table, so it didn’t do much for me visually. As far as the citrus sugar rim, I liked the idea of it more than I did the taste of it. It just really didn’t do anything for me. It would have been fun if they opted for a sugar rim flavor that wasn’t featured in the drink. Coconut maybe?
Cherry Limeade Marg with Patrón Frozen Marg Swirl
Before we even get into the taste of this margarita, can we talk about how amazing the icey texture of Chili’s Patrón Frozen Marg is? It’s never too melty and is almost pillow-y in texture. It’s exactly the consistency I want when I’m ordering a frozen drink. So please never change that Chili’s. Now let’s get into the Cherry Limeade Marg with Patrón Frozen Marg Swirl ($10)...
Thanks to the pale hue of the frozen marg swirl, the lime and cherry garnishes really popped with this cocktail. They were bright and vibrant, and really made you want to dive into that first sip. You also get a pretty hearty amount of frozen marg as part of the swirl.
You can mix the frozen marg swirl and Cherry Limeade Marg together in your glass, but I preferred having the drink layered. It looks better and I liked being able to get a sip of the Cherry Limeade Marg and a sip of the frozen marg separately. Interestingly enough, although both Margarita of the Month options have pretty much the same ingredients, I found that the one with the frozen marg swirl tasted more like a boozy Shirley Temple, which I loved.
Also, the addition of Patrón Frozen Marg seemed to cut down on the sweetness of the Cherry Limeade Marg, and that was appreciated.
My Favorite…
Pay the extra four bucks for the Cherry Limeade Marg with Patrón Frozen Marg Swirl! That swirl just does something to me. While I had such a fun time with May’s Popping Boba Marg, the Cherry Limeade Marg with Patrón Frozen Marg Swirl is now my favorite Margarita of the Month this year. For me, it was a combination of the nostalgic Shirley Temple taste and the icey perfection of the frozen marg swirl.
