A New Study Reveals The Best Airport For A Boozy Layover—And It’s Not Where You’d Think

For me, part of the excitement of traveling is getting to the airport a couple of hours early, grabbing a cocktail or two, and partaking in some next-level people watching. And my home airport, Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, is an absolute gem for bar hopping and people watching. I mean, we even have our own Fat Tuesdays daiquiri bar. Surprisingly though, according to Upgraded Points, it’s not the best airport for a boozy layover.

As part of an intriguing new study, Upgraded Points analyzed 50 of the largest U.S. airports to identify where travelers can most easily find quality drinks and lively bar scenes

"Layovers don't have to be a travel low point," said Keri Stooksbury, editor-in-chief at Upgraded Points, in a statement. "With craft cocktail bars and award-nominated restaurants becoming standard airport amenities, more travelers are choosing to enjoy the stop instead of just enduring it. This study shows exactly which airports turn a long wait into a memorable part of the journey and maybe even a reason to arrive early."

I’m sure y’all are eager to find out who snagged the top spot for the best boozy layover. That honor goes to Boston, Massachusetts’ Logan International Airport (BOS). Anyone surprised? Underwhelmed? I’ve traveled in and out of Logan a few times, and I honestly don’t recall ever coming across a lively bar or a good cocktail. But they do have amazing clam chowder, so I’ll give them that.

Other airports to break the Top 5 include Nashville International Airport (BNA), Kansas City International Airport (MCI), Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) and Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY). Extra shout out to Kansas City because they also have the most Top-Rated Airport Bars in the U.S.

And suddenly, those upcoming holiday layovers are starting to look more hopeful.
