The Coziest Boozy Hot Chocolate Ever—And The Ingredient You’d Never Expect

Who doesn’t love a boozy hot chocolate? Whether you’re camping with friends or “roughing it” in the backyard with a good book and your favorite blanket, it’s the perfect treat to cozy up to. What I love about boozy hot chocolate is that there are so many different ways to customize the drink depending on what you like. Want a hot chocolate that’s more decadent? You can opt for a cream liqueur. Want to up the booze factor? Simply swap liqueurs for a dark rum of whiskey.

After experimenting with some different customizations, I recently whipped up what might just be my favorite hot chocolate yet. And it’s all thanks to one unexpected ingredient. A few weeks ago, I was sent a package filled with samples from Licor 43. I immediately fell in love with their Crème Brûlée cream liqueur.

In addition to the cream liqueur, I also received a bottle of their Licor 43 Spanish liqueur, which features notes of vanilla and citrus. Given that I love the combination of chocolate and orange, I knew this was an ingredient I had to try in my boozy hot chocolate. I also opted for a little complexity with a splash of Copali dark rum from Belize.

The end result boasts spice, citrus, warmth from the vanilla and some major chocolate decadence. It might just be my favorite hot chocolate yet and it’s so easy to make! Check out the recipe below to create your own!
