Whether you’re a tequila aficionado or a boozy novice, we should all bask in the Lushworthy glory that is National Tequila Day (July 24). And just in time for National Tequila Day, I was able to snag a handful of tequila-fueled recipes from Tiffanie Barriere, Tequila Avion brand ambassador and mixologist extraordinaire.
From a tequila Old Fashioned to an Avion cocktail topped with Prosecco, there’s something for everyone, no matter your level of tequila fandom. Take a look below for Tiffanie’s recipes. Cheers!
2 oz Avion Reposado
Bar spoon of agave
2 dashes angostura bitters
2 dashes orange bitters
In a tall mixing glass, first combine agave and bitters, and create an aroma with bar spoon. Add Avion and ice. Stir cold. Pour over large ice cube in a rocks glass. Garnish with orange zest.
Maria Takes On
2 oz Avion
.50 oz lime juice
.50 oz Orange liquor
1 oz cranberry
Combine all ingredients and shake cold. Double strain over clean ice into rocks glass. Top with Prosecco.
2 oz Avion Silver
.50 oz Campari
1 oz oz agave
.50 oz fresh lime juice
4 sprigs of thyme
Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice and shake cold. Double strain over fresh ice in a rocks glass. Garnish with fresh thyme.
If you plan on celebrating National Tequila Day by downing tequila shots with the assistance of a slice of lime and a lick of salt then please step away from that bag of organic limes, canister of Morton Salt, and cheap tequila, my friend. All those blue agave plants didn’t sacrifice themselves just so you could celebrate National Tequila Day like an overeager undergrad. No bueno. So, when this latest boozy holiday does roll around this Thursday (July 24), you should definitely consider one of these carefully-crafted, tequila-heavy recipes from Herradura, Don Julio, Sauza, and a handful of other tequila brands. Cheers!
Pineapple Serrano Margarita(Pictured Above)
2 oz. Herradura Silver
3 cubic inches of pineapple diced
¾ oz lime juice
½ oz simple syrup
3 slices of Serrano chili with seeds.
Crush pineapple and chili slices in the base of a shaker with a muddler. Add cubed ice and remaining ingredients; shake hard and strain over ice in an old fashioned glass. Garnish with a chili and a star Anise pod.
It’s easy for a holiday like National Tequila Day to slip your mind when you live in a state where you can’t purchase alcohol from a liquor or grocery store on Sunday’s. And since National Tequila Day happened to fall on a Sunday this year I completely forgot about this lushworthy holiday. But I’m only one day late so I figure I can still celebrate a bit. And feel free to celebrate with me by mixing up one or more of these tequila-based drink recipes from Sauza Tequila.
