Cocktails On The Cheap: Half-Off Sips At Nashville’s The Sutler Saloon

Well, I can officially knock cocktails in the “Music City” (Nashville, Tennessee) off the Lushworthy bucket list. Over the weekend, myself and a couple of blogger friends took part in our first ever #LushYumBeauty press trip. We sipped and noshed our way through both Chattanooga and Nashville, and had an amazing time while doing so.

I love a good Happy Hour turn-up, so I was excited to discover that The Sutler Saloon, one of the restaurants we visited while in Nashville, offered just that. All of the cocktails on their menu are half-off from 3 to 7 P.M., Monday through Friday.

A cocktail fav for me from The Sutler was “The Slingshot,” which is made using Gordon’s Gin, orange bitters, lemon, and sweet vermouth. I know that a lot of people tend to treat gin cocktails like a wicked step-kid because of past experiences. Trust me, a well-made gin cocktail will change your entire outlook on life. And “The Slingshot” has the ability to do just that. Taste-wise, it was like biting into a gin-infused orange. The orange flavor is heavily present thanks to the bitters, but there isn’t that tart ickyness you sometimes get from OJ. It. Is. Good!

Cocktails On The Cheap: Pour It Up In Phuket, Thailand

phuket-cheap-cocktails

While finding cheap drinks in Phuket, Thailand is no struggle, you can easily fall into the tourist trap of overpriced hotel drinks and their dreaded service charges, and weak, pricey drinks at nightclubs. If you’re planning a trip to Phuket anytime soon (which you should) here are a few, boozy tips I gathered from my time there.

Street Vendors Are EVERYTHING – The cheapest drink I came across during my travels in Phuket was a 50 baht mojito from a street vendor near Karon Beach. 50 baht is roughly $1.50 in American dollars. $1.50 mojitos make me very, very happy, and I am forever indebted to the group of ladies making these tasty concoctions. And yes, the mojitos were very tasty.

If you pay $1.50 for a mojito, you probably expect a cheap rum paired with an even cheaper, pre-made mojito mixer. Well, that’s not how they roll in Phuket. Although there was likely cheap rum involved, they did use fresh mint and lime. There was also lots of muddling involved.

Also, I read a lot of warnings in regards to Phuket street vendors and the quality of ice they use, and how it relates to err…gastrointestinal issues. So, I should share that I didn’t have any problems on that end.

Indulge In Hotel Happy Hours – Out of the three hotels we stayed at in Phuket, two of them had daily Happy Hours. Both hotels had buy one, get one free specials for about two hours each day. One hotel in particular, Hotel Ikon, had an all-day special on Mai Tais, which was right up my alley. I may have had one every day, during our stay. I can’t remember the exact price in baht, but I do know that each Mai Tai was about four dollars and change.

Cocktails On The Cheap: LA’s Best Wine Happy Hour

Little Next Door Happy Hour

Me: “Excuse me, is your Happy Hour special for all wines on the menu?”

Waitress: “Yep! All wines by the glass.”

Me: “!!!!!!!!!!”

Not sure about you guys, but I don’t think I’ve ever come across a Happy Hour that features half-off an entire, and quite extensive, menu of wines. Well, I lucked out in the most Lushworthy of ways during my recent trip to Los Angeles. My friend and I were really craving French macarons, so we did some research online and came across Little Next Door. We immediately made our way to Little Next Door and soon discovered that we arrived during Happy Hour. Cha-ching! After being informed that all wines were half-off, I ordered a glass of Rose to go with my macarons. And then more Rose. And then another macaron. And then possibly more Rose…I can’t quite remember.

The Rose was delish, and in my opinion it paired well with the assortment of macarons I ordered. I absolutely loved their salted caramel-flavored macaron. I ordered a pistachio macaron, but it came straight out of the fridge or freezer, and was a little too cold to be enjoyed. The third flavor may have been vanilla. Tasty, but the salted caramel was hands down the best.

Also, in addition to boasting a stellar Happy Hour, Little Next Door is a welcoming, well-decorated establishment. Heavily French-themed with ample space outside for people-watching while you sip on your wine of choice.

Oh! Almost forgot the most important part. Happy Hour at Little Next Door takes place from 4 – 7 PM, Monday – Friday.

Cheers!

Cocktails On The Cheap: $5 Pina Coladas & Punch Of The Day At Decatur’s The SOS Tiki Bar

The SOS Tiki Bar Pina Colada

It’s not often that you stumble upon a tiki bar while walking through a dimly lit alley in downtown Decatur. Okay, maybe said alley wasn’t that dimly lit, and I was familiar with The SOS Tiki Bar long before stumbling upon it, but you get the idea.

Pina coladas, daiquiris, and other tropics-inspired concoctions are high on my list of favorite cocktails, so I wanted to visit The SOS Tiki Bar as soon as I received word that the bar would be replacing Paper Plane.

Also, they have a daily Happy Hour special, which features various punches, so my enthusiasm was heightened even more. I assumed their Happy Hour punches would feature solely rum, but the punch of the day when I stopped by featured cognac as the main spirit. It was the “Beach Cobbler,” and was made using cognac, sherry, raspberry, lemon, sugar, and soda. I can’t say I was a fan. It wasn’t bad, just not my speed.

I did enjoy their pina colada, which was only $5. FIVE FRIGGIN’ DOLLARS. In case you’re wondering, I felt the need to repeat that price because A) $5 for a real pina colada is pretty insane, and B) The pina coladas at The SOS Tiki Bar were initially $10, but were brought down to $5 back in December. Let’s all go ahead and embrace that win for a moment.

With its $5 pina coladas, rotating Happy Hour, and retro, tiki bar vibe, I’m very much looking forward to my next visit to The SOS Tiki Bar.

Cocktails On The Cheap: STK Atlanta Gets B.A.D.A.S.S. With $7 Belvedere Cocktails

STK Strawberry Cobbler

It’s no secret that STK Atlanta can be a little on the pricey side, but if you aren’t planning on going all out with a steak dinner and a bottle of bubbly, then you may be surprised to hear that you can enjoy both cocktails and small bites at an affordable price.

Late last year, the Midtown Atlanta steakhouse launched their B.A.D.A.S.S. specialty cocktail menu. I’m guessing this is the part where you need a little help with that acronym. Well, B.A.D.A.S.S. is an acronym for $7 Belvedere All Day And Saturday, Sunday. Among the Belvedere cocktails featured on STK’s specialty cocktail menu are the Midtown Elixir, Blueberry Collins, and Orange Noir.

I had the opportunity to try the Midtown Elixir and it was both tasty and refreshing. Don’t quote me on this, but I’m pretty sure it’s a champagne and vodka-based cocktail (one of my favorite boozy combinations). And if you happen to venture outside of STK’s B.A.D.A.S.S. menu then I highly suggest their Strawberry Cobbler cocktail (pictured above). Yeah, it’s $14, but the graham cracker rim is well worth it. The vodka and fresh strawberries too.

In addition to $7 cocktails all day, everyday, STK also offers a $7 Small Bites Menu from 5 to 7 P.M., Monday through Friday. In regards to that menu, my favorite is the Lil’ BGR with truffle fries.

Cocktails On The Cheap: Half Price Whiskey Cocktails On Wednesdays At Decatur’s The Pinewood

The PinewoodThings harder than finding half price specials on craft cocktails: locating a leprechaun and his pot of gold, beating Level 482 on Candy Crush, taking a selfie with Beyonce…You get the point. Needless to say, finding cheap craft cocktails is no easy feat. That’s why I’m a big fan of Whiskey Wednesdays at downtown Decatur eatery, The Pinewood Tippling Room.

Every Wednesday, the restaurant offers their whiskey cocktails, which are normally $10 to $12-ish, at half price. Sometimes this offer does change a bit. They might only feature select whiskeys, but despite any minor stipulations, the cocktails are always half off. And we’re talking about some darn good cocktails too, folks. I can’t speak on the food too much since I haven’t sampled a lot, but the cocktails at The Pinewood are definitely on point.

Be sure to check them out one of these Hump Days!
