Where To Get Your Drink On During College Football Championship Weekend In Atlanta

With the National College Football Championship taking place in Atlanta this Monday (January 8), the city will surely be (safely) boozing it up this weekend. Atlanta will soon welcome thousands of folks from out of town, so I figured I should welcome y’all to “The A” by offering my picks for the best places to get you drink on near Mercedes-Benz Stadium (where the big game will take place).

To be honest with you guys, there aren’t a ton of amazing food/drink options in the immediate area near the stadium. Fortunately, we have a streetcar in the downtown Atlanta area that’s surprisingly ideal for bar-hopping. A few of the places featured on my list are easily accessible by taking the streetcar. If you’re near The Benz or Centennial Park, your likely streetcar stop will be on the corner next to the SkyView ferris wheel. You can find a map for the streetcar here.

Check out my picks below, cheers!

McCormick & Schmick’s: Listen, finding a decent Happy Hour in downtown Atlanta is like finding the lost city of Atlantis. It’s rough. Thankfully, there’s McCormick & Schmick’s. Their Happy Hour is everyday from 4 to 7 P.M., and features both food and drinks. My favs are the Lemon Drop Martini and Crispy Baja Fish Tacos. FYI: This pick is also the closest to Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Ray’s In The City: The Mai Tai at Ray’s In The City on Peachtree Street is hands down one of my favorite drinks in all of Atlanta. Their calamari is also pretty divine. Unfortunately, their Happy Hour menu is only available Monday through Friday, so go now!

MOTHER: MOTHER is my jam! This is definitely a place you want to hit up, during late night hours. There’s usually a deejay playing some classic Atlanta tunes, so it can get pretty lively. If you’re not quite ready to turn up, grab yourself a local brew and partake in one of the numerous board games available at MOTHER.

LUSHWORTHY Pics: #MeetMeAtTheBar Stopped By El Bandido For Cheap Margs & A Shot Of Holiday Cheer

Upon first visit, I was really impressed with El Bandido, a Tex-Mex restaurant located in Atlanta’s Little Five Points neighborhood. So, when I was in the middle of planning a super-last minute Happy Hour meetup before the holidays, I knew it was the perfect spot. Not only is the food on point, but their house margaritas are $2.99, every Tuesday. Despite the last minute notice, a nice-sized crowd turned up at my third ever #MeetMeAtTheBar. I had boozy gifts on deck for a few of those in attendance, and the margs had everyone in Lushworthy spirits.

In case you missed it, check out a few photos in the gallery below, and stay tuned for details on the next #MeetMeAtTheBar!

Cocktails On The Cheap: $2.99 Margaritas At Atlanta’s El Bandido

I absolutely love discovering new places to get my drink on in Atlanta. After walking past a spot on Euclid Ave. called El Bandido countless times, I finally gave it a shot after spotting an outdoor banner promoting $2.99 margaritas on Tuesdays. Smart move. Not only is their house margarita one of the cheapest in the city, it’s also hella strong. I’m no lightweight, and I was tipsy off of one. Two margs, and I was set. Thank you, El Bandido.

I also had the pleasure of dining on their tortilla soup, which was another pleasant surprise. Not gonna lie to you guys, but I’m pretty sure that’s the first time I’ve ever had chicken tortilla soup. It was delicious though. I was really impressed by the presentation. The tortilla crisps and the placement of the avocados made for a five-star dish, visually.

In addition to their margs and chicken tortilla soup, El Bandido offers a hearty variety of your usual Tex-Mex options. You can find El Bandido at 1083 Euclid Ave.

How To Survive A Visit To A Dive Bar If You’re Hella Bougie

I’m a thirty-something, so I definitely understand the allure of sipping Rose at a sparkly rooftop bar or visiting a chic eatery for a craft cocktail. But at the end of the day, I LOVE DIVE BARS! Why do I love dive bars? Well, there’s a number of tantalizing reasons. Let’s start off with the most frugal: drinks are cheap. There’s usually a solid Happy Hour, and on top of that drinks are usually cheap to begin with. Also, I love shenanigans, And drunken shenanigans have no limit at dive bars.

Sadly, my love for dive bars isn’t as popular among the 30+ crowd. But for those curious, I’ve created a mini guide to help you maneuver your way through just about any dive bar. So, let’s dive right in! (See what I did there?)

Have No Expectations

If you want to expect the best, that’s cool. I like your optimism. But be prepared for shoddy bartenders, “Real Housewives” level drama, and dogs just casually chilling at the bar. (See below for proof of the latter)

Dogs are also #LUSHWORTHY.

Cocktails On The Cheap: Half-Off Sips At Nashville’s The Sutler Saloon

Well, I can officially knock cocktails in the “Music City” (Nashville, Tennessee) off the Lushworthy bucket list. Over the weekend, myself and a couple of blogger friends took part in our first ever #LushYumBeauty press trip. We sipped and noshed our way through both Chattanooga and Nashville, and had an amazing time while doing so.

I love a good Happy Hour turn-up, so I was excited to discover that The Sutler Saloon, one of the restaurants we visited while in Nashville, offered just that. All of the cocktails on their menu are half-off from 3 to 7 P.M., Monday through Friday.

A cocktail fav for me from The Sutler was “The Slingshot,” which is made using Gordon’s Gin, orange bitters, lemon, and sweet vermouth. I know that a lot of people tend to treat gin cocktails like a wicked step-kid because of past experiences. Trust me, a well-made gin cocktail will change your entire outlook on life. And “The Slingshot” has the ability to do just that. Taste-wise, it was like biting into a gin-infused orange. The orange flavor is heavily present thanks to the bitters, but there isn’t that tart ickyness you sometimes get from OJ. It. Is. Good!

Cocktails On The Cheap: Pour It Up In Phuket, Thailand

phuket-cheap-cocktails

While finding cheap drinks in Phuket, Thailand is no struggle, you can easily fall into the tourist trap of overpriced hotel drinks and their dreaded service charges, and weak, pricey drinks at nightclubs. If you’re planning a trip to Phuket anytime soon (which you should) here are a few, boozy tips I gathered from my time there.

Street Vendors Are EVERYTHING – The cheapest drink I came across during my travels in Phuket was a 50 baht mojito from a street vendor near Karon Beach. 50 baht is roughly $1.50 in American dollars. $1.50 mojitos make me very, very happy, and I am forever indebted to the group of ladies making these tasty concoctions. And yes, the mojitos were very tasty.

If you pay $1.50 for a mojito, you probably expect a cheap rum paired with an even cheaper, pre-made mojito mixer. Well, that’s not how they roll in Phuket. Although there was likely cheap rum involved, they did use fresh mint and lime. There was also lots of muddling involved.

Also, I read a lot of warnings in regards to Phuket street vendors and the quality of ice they use, and how it relates to err…gastrointestinal issues. So, I should share that I didn’t have any problems on that end.

Indulge In Hotel Happy Hours – Out of the three hotels we stayed at in Phuket, two of them had daily Happy Hours. Both hotels had buy one, get one free specials for about two hours each day. One hotel in particular, Hotel Ikon, had an all-day special on Mai Tais, which was right up my alley. I may have had one every day, during our stay. I can’t remember the exact price in baht, but I do know that each Mai Tai was about four dollars and change.
