Following the launch of D’USSE in 2012, the Bacardi-owned brand has welcomed its first expression, D’USSE XO. Described as “a unique blend of meticulously hand-selected eaux-de-vie, aged ten years or more,” D’USSE XO is said to boast “flavor notes of ripe blackberry and apricot, layered with hints of dark chocolate and walnut.” Sounds like a boozy trip to Godiva Chocolatier. And that definitely works for me.
“Following the highly successful launch of D’USSE VSOP, there is an opportunity to lead the evolution of the Cognac category even further,” said Robert Furniss-Roe, President of Bacardi North America. “Consumers are fascinated with dark spirits and care more than ever about the quality and level of craftsmanship in the brands they consume. D’USSE XO is the response to that request.”
For a while the newly-introduced cognac was only available to the entertainment and cocktailing elite, but now you can get your hands on a bottle of D’USSE XO for a cool $230.
The Cap’n Welcomes New Captain Morgan 1671 Commemorative Blend.
Legend has it that Captain Henry Morgan lost five ships while traveling to Panama City, Panama in the late 1600′s. Among the ships he lost was his flagship, Satisfaction.
What was the point of that brief history lesson, you ask? Well, the new, limited edition Captain Morgan 1671 Commemorative Blend is inspired by the Satisfaction. In fact, Captain Morgan’s latest spirit is finished in Spanish Oak, which is said to have also been used in the barrels that were on board Captain Morgan’s doomed ship. Kinda cool, right?
Also cool is the fact that it’s one of few commemorative blends that’s affordable. You can get your hands on a bottle of Captain Morgan 1671 Commemorative Blend (750 mL) for only $19.99.
If you happen to reside in Miami, Chicago, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, New Orleans, or Houston, then you’ll soon be able to get your hands on the newly-launched D’USSÉ cognac. D’USSÉ initially debuted in New York City and then Washington D.C. last year and thanks to the success of those launches they’re ready to branch out to six new cities this year. The “Very Superior Old Pale” cognac began to work its way into the six markets mentioned above at the top of the year and will continue to expand into those cities throughout this month.
“We’ve been delighted by the incredible response to D’USSÉ cognac in New York and are now set to expand to additional markets,” said Giles Woodyer, VP Brand Managing Director of D’USSÉ. “Our goal was always to bring something new to the cognac category by offering a meticulously crafted and distinctly smooth new product, and I believe we’ve succeeded. We’ve been particularly excited that D’USSE has appealed not only to current cognac drinkers but also to a new generation of inquisitive drinkers that are appreciating the complexity and versatility of this brand. D’USSE lends itself to being consumed neat, but is also paving the way for a renaissance in cognac, with a mixability that is landing it onto the specialty cocktail list.”
Crafted in the cellars of the famed Chateau de Cognac in France, D’USSÉ is a VSOP cognac that takes pride in its bold flavor, smooth finish, and woody aromas.
As soon as I saw the picture of Jay-Z drinking D’USSE straight out of a Grammy Award during the awards ceremony earlier tonight I practically ran to my laptop to post the pair of pictures on here. This is Lushworthy-ness at its absolute finest folks. Please take note, for what I don’t know, but please do take note. Jay-Z reps pretty hard for the newly-introduced VSOP cognac and has become somewhat of a spokesperson for the brand. The pictures (likely from Instagram) come courtesy of Carrington, a brand advocate for D’USSE.
Late last week, some of the industry’s biggest names gathered at LIV nightclub in Miami to celebrate the launch of D’USSÉ VSOP Cognac during Art Basel. The D’USSÉ flowed heavily as Jay-Z (who also served as the event’s host), Beyonce, The Dream, Pusha T, and numerous other notables partied it up with the assistance of a seemingly never-ending supply of D’USSÉ. I’ve yet to sample D’USSÉ, but if it tastes as good as it looks then it’ll likely be a welcomed addition to the cognac world. The cognac is currently only available in select East Coast markets and retails for $44.99 (750-ml bottle).
There aren’t many things cooler than the power couple of all power couples sipping on Bacardi’s newest cognac kid, D’USSÉ. And while you’ve likely already seen a few of these pictures floating around on the internet, I couldn’t pass on the opportunity to showcase Jay-Z and Beyonce at their most Lushworthy. Despite the couple’s lowkey promotion of the new liquor, it’s still unclear what exactly Jay-Z’s involvement is with D’USSÉ, my guess would be spokesperson, but there’s definitely some kind of involvement going on there. D’USSÉ is currently only available in select markets, but the brand will hopefully up the ante once the holidays roll around.
