If you’re a rum fanatic then chances are you don’t need me to tell you that National Rum Day takes place this week on August 16. Although National Rum Day’s probably been marked in your calendar for months now you may need a little inspiration when it comes to crafting cocktails for this year’s rum-heavy holiday and I’ve got plenty of rum-centered drink recipes to choose from. Whether you’re looking to make the classic “Cuba Libre” with help from Bacardi or are in the market for something a little more off-the-wall, take the “Zacapa Rum Negroni” for example, you’ll likely find the ideal, National Rum Day cocktail below.
As for me, there’s probably a 78.7 percent chance (please don’t ask how I come up with these percentages) that I’ll be sipping on the “Sailor Jerry Root Beer Float” come Friday. I’m sorry, but I can in no way pass on a rum and ice cream combo.
Cheers to a safe and enjoyable National Rum Day!

The Lushworthy combination that is horchata and rum is one that’s a little hard to get your hands on here in the states. The drink is quite common in Latin America, but with the introduction of Cruzan Rum’s Cruzan Velvet Cinn you’ll soon be able to get your horchata and rum fix right at home. Announced at the top of the month, Cruzan Velvet Cinn is made using Cruzan Rum and sweet dairy cream and boasts a smooth cinnamon flavor.
“As rum horchatas gain in popularity and presence, Cruzan Rum saw the opportunity in the marketplace to develop a premium rum horchata option. Velvet Cinn makes an excellent addition to our exceptional portfolio and fills a need in the marketplace for a premium cream rum liqueur,” said Nabil Wanna, Senior Brand Manager of Rum at Beam Inc. “It fits right in with our expansion of flavors and provides rum horchata lovers with a high-quality alternative.”
I’m sure Cruzan Velvet Cinn is very much enjoyable on its own, but if you plan on getting your mix on with Cruzan Rum’s latest addition, I’ll be posting a couple of drink recipes in the next week so stay tuned.
And for those hoping to snag a bottle, you can expect to pay about $19.99 for a 750ml bottle of Cruzan Velvet Cinn.
With Spring only a matter of hours away, I think we can finally grant an official welcome to those refreshingly fruity cocktails that are very much prominent during the warmer months. Among the most popular spring cocktails is the daiquiri, the rum-based concoction that typically calls for rum, lime juice, and simple syrup. Like many standard cocktails, the daiquiri has of course had its fair share of remixed versions with the newest daiquiri creation coming courtesy of Cruzan Rum. Created by Jesse Card, Cruzan Master Mixologist, the “Cruzan Passionway Daiquiri” is a perfect spring cocktail thanks to a combination of fresh lime, grapefruit juice, and Cruzan Passion Fruit Rum. You can find the full recipe for the “Cruzan Passionway Daiquiri” below.
Cruzan Passionway Daiquiri
2 parts Cruzan® Passion Fruit Rum
½ parts Fresh Squeezed Lime
¼ parts Fresh Squeezed Grapefruit Juice
¼ parts DeKuyper® Cherry Liqueur
¼ parts Rich Simple Syrup (2 parts sugar, 1 part water)
Thin Lime Wheel
Combine all ingredients in a shaker over ice and shake vigorously for 10 seconds. Fine strain into a chilled coupe. Garnish with a thin sliced lime wheel.
If you happen to hate Valentine’s Day, that is fully understandable, but instead of punching pillows all day or throwing pictures and various other memento’s of your ex into a fireplace, why not enjoy a cocktail or two? While there are plenty of cocktails dedicated to Valentine’s Day there’s also plenty of drink recipes that are a little more anti-Valentine’s Day friendly. Take for instance EFFEN Vodka’s “EFFEN Bitter Truth,” that name alone just screams “Valentine’s Day is for chumps.” And if you’re hoping to make the holiday a little more relaxing there’s also Van Gogh Vodka’s “Dutch Tea” which is a decadent combination of Van Gogh Dutch Chocolate Vodka, tea, heavy cream, and sugar.
Personally, I think that if you’re without a boo on V-Day you should celebrate the holiday with friends and EFFEN Vodka’s “Toast Of The Town” is ideal for that kind of occasion. If those cocktails haven’t quite tickled your fancy then I’ve also included drink recipes from Pinnacle Vodka, Jim Beam, and Cruzan Rum.

It’s that time of year again folks. The time when you whip up a few creative cocktails with your pals, munch on some slamming snacks, and watch a few hilarious commercials. Oh, and also watch two of the NFL’s best teams battle it out for the coveted Vince Lombardi Trophy. I don’t think I even have to tell you guys how vital it is to have at least one awesome cocktail at your Super Bowl shindig. So whether you’re a Ravens fan, a 49ers fan, or are just really excited to see Beyonce perform during halftime (that would be me!) you’re bound to find your ideal Super Bowl cocktail below.

I really hate to choose favorites when it comes to this here blog, but I will say that rum ranks very high when it comes to my favorite spirits. It might just be the ideal spirit in my opinion, it doesn’t assault your mouth too much when sipped straight and I’m sure we all know rum is amazing when it comes to making cocktails. So all my fellow rum lovers out there will be pleased to hear that August 16th is in fact National Rum Day! Hooray!!
My goal is to always post drink recipes that I think are really cool and that others would enjoy, but I have to admit that these recipes have me quite literally salivating over here. The “Cruzan Coconut Old Fashioned” had me at “old fashioned,” the house-made cream of coconut for Sailor Jerry Rum’s“Wahine Piña Colada” will certainly be out of this world, and as simple as it might be the “Captain Morgan Black & Honey” sounds absolutely delicious. So take your pick and Happy National Rum Day!
