What You Should Know About Bacardi’s $5.1 Billion Purchase Of Patron

Instagram/patron

I have tons of friends and fam who are big fans of Patron, but very few of them are aware of the latest news surrounding the premium tequila. Nearly two weeks ago, it was reported that Bacardi acquired Patron for $5.1 billion. From the numbers alone, it’s clear that this is a huge deal in the liquor biz. So, I figured I’d share some quick factoids, for those interested. Grab your Patron margaritas and let’s do this…

Bacardi is more than just a rum, it’s a billion dollar spirits behemoth. For those unfamiliar, Bacardi Limited is the largest privately held spirits company in the world. Among the notable brands owned by Bacardi Limited are Bacardi Rum (no surprise there), Grey Goose, Bombay Sapphire, and D’USSE. Patron now joins Bacardi Limited’s roster of well over 200 spirits.

Bacardi Limited previously owned 30 percent of Patron. Since 2008, Bacardi Limited owned some percentage in Patron. So, it may come as little surprise to some that on the 10-year-anniversary of that deal, the spirits company has taken full ownership.

The owner of Patron was once homeless. Now this is quite the Lushworthy rags-to-riches story. Prior to boasting a net worth of $3.4 billion (that’s billion with a “b”), Patron’s co-founder John Paul DeJoria was once a single parent without a home. With his ties to Patron and hefty net worth, DeJoria clearly needs to be name-dropped in wayyy more rap songs. I nominate Migos.

Top-shelf spirits are winning. Shout out to everyone who has evolved from drinking Amaretto Sours to craft cocktails made using premium spirits, because top-shelf spirits are taking note. The purchase of Patron by Bacardi Limited serves as yet another example of spirits companies putting in work to ensure that their lineup of premium spirits slays.

Lastly, I leave you with this tweet: 1. Because it’s hilarious, and 2. For anyone worried, I highly doubt that any drastic changes will be made to Patron as a result of the Bacardi Limited deal, because if it ain’t broke…

Boozing With Willie: “The Penalty Flag” (Made Using Ciroc Pineapple & Bacardi Pineapple)

Penalty Flag

With the NFC and AFC titles now claimed, the stage is set for Super Bowl XLIX between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots. Whether you’ll be rooting for the Seahawks or the Patriots one thing we can agree on is our desire to see a great game that’s decided by the players and not the officiating (ask Cowboys and Lions fans if you don’t understand what I’m getting at here).

With that in mind, ask yourself “Wouldn’t it be cool to take the power of penalization out of the officials hands and put it into the fans for a change?” If you answered “yes”, sober up like I had to and come to your senses. The Super Bowl would be absolute bedlam if we ran things. However, all hope isn’t lost, my friends…

Luckily, a byproduct of these thoughts was left behind and a drink was inspired, The Penalty Flag. A cocktail that’s a touchdown celebration in a collins glass. Perfect for sipping on come game day. It has pineapples, rum, vodka, cherries, and even a mini friggin’ penalty flag! Do yourself a favor, fix one of these on February 1st, grab some hot wings and enjoy yourself. Cheers!

INGREDIENTS

1 oz. Ciroc Pineapple
1 oz. Bacardi Pineapple Infused Rum
4 oz. Pineapple Juice
Maraschino Cherry Juice
Pineapple Wedge(s)
Maraschino Cherry
Mini Penalty Flag

DIRECTIONS

Combine pineapple vodka, rum and juice in a shaker with ice and shake vigorously (this will give it the frothy look seen in the picture). Strain this mixture into a chilled, ice filled collins glass. Drizzle some maraschino cherry juice into the mixture to give it a reddish tint. Garnish with a pineapple wedge, a maraschino cherry and mini penalty flag.

To create the penalty flag, simply cut a yellow piece of cloth about 1/4″ wide and double fold the strip in half. Wrap a small rubber band at the fold of the cloth to create a loop that a garnish pick can fit through.

Bacardi Reveals Sweepstakes Details For Bacardi Triangle Festival

Bacardi TriangleOver the past day, social media has been buzzing following the announcement that Bacardi plans on hosting one of the most epic music festivals around. Titled Bacardi Triangle (or #BacardiTriangle for the social media-loving folks), the festival will take place over a span of four days in Puerto Rico from October 30 to November 2.

In honor of the year of its creation, Bacardi will invite 1,862 guests to take part in the one-of-a-kind event, which will include a concert on a private island in the Bermuda Triangle. Pretty pimpin’, right? Among the artists scheduled to perform at the concert are Kendrick Lamar, Ellie Goulding, and DJ Calvin Harris.

“I’m looking forward to playing in the BACARDÍ Triangle, this has to be one of the most elaborate parties to have ever been organized,” Calvin Harris said in a statement.

So, the question of the hour is how does one get invited to such an amazing fete? It’s pretty simple actually. Just listen to Pandora, the Bacardi Triangle station (http://pandora.com/BacardiTriangle) to be exact. That’s where Bacardi will host a series of sweepstakes (beginning September 22) for those hoping to win a chance to jet off to Puerto Rico for their boozy, music extravaganza.

In addition to the concert on a private island, Bacardi Triangle attendees will also be treated to “pool-side sets from some of the world’s leading DJs” during their stay at the Waldorf Astoria El Conquistador resort in Puerto Rico. Also scheduled for that weekend is a Halloween-themed party that will consist of “global DJs, living mermaids, poi performance artists, voodoo shacks, tribal food huts and more.” Oh, and the entire trip is of course all-expenses paid.

Good luck to those who enter!

If you’re a rum fanatic then chances are you don’t need me to tell you that National Rum Day takes place this week on August 16. Although National Rum Day’s probably been marked in your calendar for months now you may need a little inspiration when it comes to crafting cocktails for this year’s rum-heavy holiday and I’ve got plenty of rum-centered drink recipes to choose from. Whether you’re looking to make the classic “Cuba Libre” with help from Bacardi or are in the market for something a little more off-the-wall, take the “Zacapa Rum Negroni” for example, you’ll likely find the ideal, National Rum Day cocktail below.

As for me, there’s probably a 78.7 percent chance (please don’t ask how I come up with these percentages) that I’ll be sipping on the “Sailor Jerry Root Beer Float” come Friday. I’m sorry, but I can in no way pass on a rum and ice cream combo.

Cheers to a safe and enjoyable National Rum Day!

“Whippets” & Catered Bites From Chef Shane & Ocean Catering Company

Pinnacle And Whippets

To introduce their newest client, Chef Shane and Ocean Catering Company, Caren West PR held a private shindig in downtown Atlanta to give a handful of bloggers, journalists, and others in the food/beverage industry a taste (literally) at all that Chef Shane is cooking up. Also on hand at the event was Wild Heaven Craft Beers and Pinnacle Vodka who were of coursing serving up plenty of “Whippets” (Whynatte and Pinnacle Whipped Vodka). The “Whippets” also proved to be a nice companion to OCC’s Angus sirloin sliders, Sloppy Joe’s, and mini creme brulees.
