I’m still sulking over last night’s episode of “Game Of Thrones,” but I promise I’ll snap out of it just in time to check out Chicago-based artist Hebru Brantley’s“Penny Candy” art show here in Atlanta. Taking place at the Loews Atlanta Hotel this Friday, June 7, the show will feature over 40 (purchasable) paintings, drawings, and sculptures from Brantley and promises to be quite the occasion. Keeping with the theme of the art show, SKYY Vodka will be on hand to provide attendee’s with complimentary, penny candy-themed cocktails. You can also expect plenty of hors d’œuvres and tunes from DJ Kemit and DJ Karl Injex.
The event is free to the public, and if you wish to attend be sure to head over to the “Penny Candy” Eventbrite page to RSVP. You can find more info in the flyer below.
I’m not sure about you guys, but my idea of an enjoyable New Years Eve has never consisted of being cramped in a mega-club, sipping on watered down cran and vodka’s while those new shoes you bought die a slow and arduous death at the feet of hundreds of drunken strangers. Also, the price tag of that mega-club mayhem typically starts at at least $100. So if you happen to reside in the great city of Atlanta and are looking for a more cost efficient, genuinely fun, and of course Lushworthy New Years Eve affair then I’ve come up with three ideas that’ll likely peak your interest.
Share A Punch Bowl With Friends At Lure – Fantastic drinks paired with an equally amazing dinner might just be the most ideal way to spend New Years Eve in my book and when that fantastic drink happens to be served from one of Lure’s oh so Lushworthy punch bowls then you’re in for quite the evening. Punch bowls at Lure range in price from $40 to $80 and are about as craft as they come thanks to ingredients like almond horchata, Bacardi Solera Rum, Quinta do Portal, and Benedictine. Be sure to get your NYE reservation in ASAP!
Party It Up At The Stankonia New Years Eve Party – At Stankonia you will get a crowd, but it’s far from your up-tight, faux Louboutin-sporting club crowd. And seriously, where else in Atlanta the world can you partake in a Belvedere Vodka open bar for only $45? Yes, 45 buckaroos…that’s it. On top of that open bar bargain, you’ll also be partying it up at the former recording haven of the legendary Outkast. In fact, at last years party Big Boi of Outkast even tapped into his inner bartender to serve up a few shots to attendee’s. You can purchase tickets via Xorbia.com.
Trade Bubbly For Brew At New Beers Eve – “Champagne who?” That’s precisely what you’ll likely be saying within minutes of attending the Atlanta Beer Festivals’ New Beers Eve celebration in Lil 5 Points. For only $60 ($70 day of) you’ll have the opportunity to sample 20 different beers and when you’ve had your fill of brew (if that’s even possible) you can switch over to well liquor or house wine which, on top of food, is also complimentary with your ticket purchase. Tickets to New Beers Eve can be purchased at Xorbia.com.
Although Gentleman Jack’s Art Beats + Lyrics has consistently proven to be an amazing mix of art, music and last but certainly not least whiskey, I almost feel obligated to add a post on the annual event due to the fact that my first ever write-up on Lushworthy was about Art Beats + Lyrics. While it wasn’t a major post it was the start of all things Lushworthy so it holds a dear place in my lush heart.
Now that that trip down memory lane is over here are the details on the event..Art Beats + Lyrics will take place on Friday, September 14th and as opposed to prior events you’ll have to text your RSVP. You can find RSVP info as well as the list of acts scheduled to perform in the flyer above. See you there!
While Atlanta’s Fashion’s Night Out is nowhere near the fashion and booze extravaganza that goes down in New York City each year, we do have quite a few great events that will take place during FNO tomorrow (September 6). Among the events taking place during FNO here in Atlanta is “A Night Of Fashion With M.Lashea” which will take place at NV-U Boutique from 7 to 10 P.M. On top of a little late night shopping and a fashion presentation from M.Lashea guests will also be treated to cocktails from X-Rated Fusion Liqueur and liquor-infused bites from Cockail Cupcakes. To attend the event be sure to RSVP on Eventbrite.com.
Heineken’s Red Star Access concert series has really become one to lookout for and with a lineup this year that includes Nas, Kendrick Lamar, and B.o.B. they’ve really upped the ante. The series kicked off in Chicago earlier this month and will go on to make stops in Atlanta, Washington D.C., New York City, and Philadelphia. Heineken has been kind of on the vague side when it comes to securing tickets for the shows so your best bet is to head over to FollowRedStar.com for more information on how you can get your hands on a ticket. Check out the list below for more details on dates and scheduled performers.
8/18 – Chicago – Nas, Pusha-T, DJ Kiss
8/26 – Atlanta – Trey Songz, Kendrick Lamar, DJ MLK
9/08 – D.C. – B.o.B, Rev Run, DJ Ruckus
9/15 – New York City – TBD
10/13 – Philadelphia – TBD
Let’s be real here, on top of being the biggest musical festival of the year South By Southwest is also the biggest open bar extravaganza of the year. I’m sure it probably becomes a bit overwhelming trying to figure out which venues and showcases are serving up the free booze so over the next few days I’ll be compiling a list of all the SXSW events that I hear about which include some kind of open bar. You can thank me later.
Oh and P.S. just because it’s open bar it doesn’t mean you have to become a drunken lunatic. Also, since it’s free please be sure to tip whoever’s serving you your free booze.
If you live in Atlanta and you’ve yet to check out one of Sean Falyon and Playboy Tre’s Red Cup Party’s then you’re losing my friend. But fear not because here’s your chance to redeem yourself (and enjoy some good music and free beer in the process). The next Red Cup Party will take place next week on Wednesday, September 21 at Smith’s Olde Bar in Midtown. The flyer doesn’t mention anything about a cover fee, but I’m pretty sure it’s about $10. You can’t go wrong with $10 for all you can drink beer and live entertainment from The A’s finest.
As I promised earlier here’s a complete list of shops in Atlanta that will be getting their open bar on during Fashion’s Night Outon September 8th. And dear lushes please show that us lushes have some class and buy at least one item during Fashion’s Night Out. It’s more than just free booze folks!

Open bars galore! Fashion and booze, a match made in lush heaven! You want wine, you want shoes…then September 8th is for you! Okay, enough with that random excitement. Let’s be real here most Fashion’s Night Outevents include some form of complimentary alcoholic beverage so am I excited about this yearly fashion extravaganza? Heck yeah I am! For those of you unfamiliar with Fashion’s Night Out it’s described as an “after-hours shopping extravaganza.” The event is huuuge in New York City, but will also take place in other major cities like Atlanta, Miami, Boston, and more. As we get closer to Fashion’s Night Out I’ll post info on here about the major (open bar) events that will take place on that night in both Atlanta and NYC so stay tuned fellow lushes.
The Heineken Red Star Access Roc Nation tour kicked off this evening in New York City with a performance by North Carolina rapper J. Cole. The tour will then go on to make stops in Atlanta, Miami, Chicago, Houston and other cities throughout the month of August. The roster of artists performing is expected to rotate between J. Cole, singer Melanie Fiona, and D.C. rapper Wale. Tickets will be given out through Heineken and various Websites, radio stations, etc. so be sure to keep your eyes and ears open.
