Thanks to the March premiere of the newest season of AMC’s hit show “Mad Men” it seems like everyone’s gone “Mad Men” crazy these days. Banana Republic released a line of clothing inspired by the show and there’s of course a ton of “Mad Men” inspired cocktails. One Atlanta bar that’s created a unique cocktail based on the show is Park 75 Lounge in the Four Seasons Hotel Atlanta.
For the entire month of June, Park 75 will be serving up their “Park 75 Old Fashioned” which is made using Four Roses Small Batch Bourbon and house-made bitters and is served over mesquite smoked ice garnished with a twist of orange. And yes, you read that correctly…mesquite smoked ice! I absolutely love the creativity Park 75 is giving us with these specialty cocktails.
The “Park 75 Old Fashioned” will be available everyday in June from 5-7 p.m. for only $6 and can be paired with the lounge’s $2 Mesquite-Smoked Brisket Sliders.
Far too many times the sake cocktail seems to be overlooked and I have absolutely no idea why because: 1) They tend to be pretty cheap and 2) They’re just as tasty as some of the liquor-based cocktails out there. If you’re looking to get your sake fix or even get your hands on a sake cocktail for the first time then look no further than Doc Chey’s Noodle House.
Doc Chey’s serves up a number of sake cocktails and also features a number of appetizing dishes like fresh Vietnamese basil rolls, Shanghai dumplings, and Japanese teriyaki udon. And apparently I’m not one of the cool kids because up until now I had absolutely no idea that you could actually infuse sake with various flavors. For instance Doc Chey’s features sake’s that are infused with flavors like cucumber and black plum and apple cinnamon. And if you’re looking for a sake cocktail that isn’t too out of the ordinary Doc Chey’s also serves up a sake-rita (their version of the margarita) at their Grant Park location. Oh and somehow I’ve managed to forget the best part, all of Doc Chey’s sake cocktails are only $4. At that price I think you can afford to give liquor cocktails a little break.
You can’t help but give props to a restaurant that actually puts some effort into giving their Happy Hour a name. That being said Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar is bringing back their “5 For $6 Til 7” deal. The deal is available every night from 5 t0 7 p.m. and consists of a total of 15 wines, cocktails, and appetizers that are all available for only $6 each. Below is a list of all the cocktails, wines, and appetizers available during “5 For $6 Til 7.”
I personally believe that there isn’t anything tastier than a slice of delicious pizza paired with your favorite cocktail. “Match made in heaven” is truly an understatement when it comes to that blissful combination. With that being said if you happen to reside in or near the city of Atlanta then you should definitely check out “Westside Pie Wednesdays” which takes place every week at Westside Pie in Midtown and features $3 drinks and $1 pizza slices. Yes, slices for a buck and drinks for three dollars. Sounds like a win to me.
Midtown restaurant Escorpion’s La Tradicional (traditional margarita) is already somewhat of a bargain at $6, but factor in the Scoutmob discount and you’ve really got yourself a cocktail on the cheap. You’re basically getting the La Tradicional for three bucks. (You of course have to factor in your Scoutmob max discount) Escorpion’s La Tradicional is made using Jimador Blanco tequila, Triple Sec, and lime and is served on the rocks. Since Escorpion is also a Mexican tequila bar the restaurant features an extensive cocktail menu designed by head mixologist Gilbert Marquez.
I’ve had the opportunity to check out Escorpion once, but unfortunately I didn’t sample any of their drinks. But I can say that their queso and shrimp tacos are pretty tasty if you’re looking for an edible companion to your cocktail. I did glance at their drink menu and the cool thing about their menu is that there’s actually a rating system which shows you how strong each drink is. So whether you’re looking for something potent or something on the lighter side their rating system helps you find that ideal cocktail.
Late last year I had the opportunity to check out the Chuy’s VIP Preview which took place a day before the grand opening of the Chuy’s Atlanta location. And as expected I was most excited to check out Chuy’s margaritas during the preview especially after doing some brief research on them on the Chuy’s Website. My margarita of choice that night was the Strawberry Chuy’s Famous Rita with a dot of lime margarita (pictured above).
The cool thing about Chuy’s is that you can “swirl & dot” your margaritas meaning you can have your drink swirled and have equal parts of two different flavors or dot your drink and have a small bit of one flavor added to your margarita. Pretty cool, right? And the best part is the Chuy’s Famous Ritas sell for only $5.75 which seems pretty reasonable for a tasty, restaurant margarita. The Chuy’s Famous Ritas are made using Giro tequila by Sauza, but if you’re in the mood for something more high-end Chuy’s also offers margaritas made using Patron for a higher price.
