Arguably one of the best perks when it comes to staying at a resort is variety. You get to sip on a decadent, tropics-inspired cocktail by day and once evening hits you can hit the lounge for something a bit more sophisticated. Miami Beach’s The Palms Hotel & Spa has done a great job of providing it’s guests with both of those options.
Need something to sip on as you make your way from the swimming pool to the beach? Well, there’s The Palms’ Tiki Bar, which slings daiquiris and other frozen treats during the day. And if you’re in the market for a solid craft cocktail before you hit the streets of South Beach then Essensia, The Palms’ lone restaurant, has got you covered with their selection of seasonal and carefully-crafted sips.
In case you’re already feeling a little overwhelmed by The Palms’ variety of boozy options, I’ve gone ahead and compiled a list of of what I feel are the four must-have sips from The Palms. Check ’em out below! (Note: A handful of seasonal cocktails are no longer on the menu, so I’ve provided the names of the cocktails that are available now and are the most similar)
Winter Chai Martini (La Dolce Vita) – Behind my much-beloved pina colada is the Winter Chai Martini when it comes to my favorite cocktail from The Palms. A combination of Crop Organic Pumpkin Vodka, Bailey’s Irish Cream, Frangelico, star anise, cinnamon stick, and chai bitters, the Winter Chai Martini is rich with flavor and decadently delicious.
Since it is in fact the Winter Chai Martini, there’s probably a 99 percent chance that this cocktail is no longer on the menu, but if you’re looking for something somewhat similar then I’m sure La Dolce Vita, one of The Palms’ newest boozy additions, will do the job.
Pina Colada – The pina colada is easily one of my favorite cocktails, but unfortunately, I have to say that about 75 percent of the pina coladas I’ve ever sampled taste exactly like what sunblock smells like. They taste super artificial and tend to lack any real ingredients. Super tragic, I know. But the pina colada at The Palms…wait for it…wait for it…It might just be the best pina colada I’ve ever had. Upon taking that first sip, you know you’re in for a treat. It’s more creamy than icy and the pineapple and coconut flavors are genuine. Oh, and be sure to enjoy this particular cocktail beachside.
Kaffir Lime Drop (Spicy Thai Basil Gimlet) – The Palms is one of very, very few restaurants in Miami that boasts it’s own garden. While it’s unlikely that every single veggie and herb in a dish you order at Essensia is hand-picked from Chef Julie Frans’ garden, it is pretty cool to sip on a cocktail or enjoy a meal that does feature a handful of additions that are straight from The Palms’ garden.
Take the Kaffir Lime Drop cocktail for example. In addition to TRU Garden Vodka, egg white, and ginger, this particular cocktail is made using lime leaf straight from Chef Julie’s garden. If the Kaffir Lime Drop is no longer on the seasonal cocktail menu at Essensia then be sure to check out the Spicy Thai Basil Gimlet if you’re in the mood for a garden-fresh cocktail.
Miami Passion – Yet another cocktail you can enjoy beach or poolside, the Miami Passion combines Absolut Miami Vodka, passion fruit essence, and sparkling wine. If you’re in need of a beach-inspired cocktail that packs more of a punch than your standard frozen drinks then the Miami Passion is probably ideal. The combination of both sparkling wine and vodka creates quite the boozy drink while the addition of passion fruit essence still keeps things tasty.
