As part of a finale show held at Atlanta’s Center Stage yesterday (August 29), Miller Lite finally crowned the winner in their “Stand Up. It’s Miller Time” comedy competition. Each comedian in the competition was given 10 minutes to put on their best standup routine in the hopes of impressing both the audience and a panel of celebrity judges (Marlon Wayans, Donnell Rawlings, and Michael Blackson).
Thanks to her hilarious impersonations (the pimp in a wheelchair bit was golden!), Houston’s own Keisha Hunt took home the win and a $10,000 check from Miller Lite. During a press briefing before the show, I had the opportunity to speak with Hunt before she performed and with nine years in the comedy game, the self-proclaimed “optimist” has plans on taking the comedy world by storm. (Side Note: During the press event, I witnessed Hunt open a bottle of Miller Lite using a scarf….hella Lushworthy and an obvious sign of greatness)
“The process it was long and hard,” Hunt revealed. “We had to send in a video and I had to send in like 12 videos cause the videos wasn’t right. But by the grace of God I felt like I’m supposed to be here because they accepted my video, I got in. So, I’m very grateful to be here. It’s been a long haul, but I’m excited…I do want to be one of the biggest female comedians out. I want to pick up where Whoopi left off. Where Moms Mabley left off. And just become this immaculate force in the comedy business.”
Yes, comedy did quite literally take center stage at Center Stage, but the brew was plentiful as Miller Lite provided guests with their choice of Miller Lite or Redd’s Apple Ale. On top of being provided with numerous laughs, those in attendance also enjoyed tunes from DJ Don Cannon in between sets.
