If you’re a rum fanatic then chances are you don’t need me to tell you that National Rum Day takes place this week on August 16. Although National Rum Day’s probably been marked in your calendar for months now you may need a little inspiration when it comes to crafting cocktails for this year’s rum-heavy holiday and I’ve got plenty of rum-centered drink recipes to choose from. Whether you’re looking to make the classic “Cuba Libre” with help from Bacardi or are in the market for something a little more off-the-wall, take the “Zacapa Rum Negroni” for example, you’ll likely find the ideal, National Rum Day cocktail below.
As for me, there’s probably a 78.7 percent chance (please don’t ask how I come up with these percentages) that I’ll be sipping on the “Sailor Jerry Root Beer Float” come Friday. I’m sorry, but I can in no way pass on a rum and ice cream combo.
Cheers to a safe and enjoyable National Rum Day!
Zacapa Rum Negroni (Pictured Above)
1 ounce Zacapa Rum 23
2/3 ounce Sweet Vermouth
1/3 ounce Bitter Italian Aperitif
1/3 ounce Semi-Bitter Italian Aperitif
Grapefruit Twist for Garnish
Combine Zacapa Rum 23, sweet vermouth, bitter Italian aperitif and semi-bitter Italian aperitif in a mixing glass filled with ice and stir well. Strain contents into a coupe glass. Garnish with grapefruit twist.
1 ¼ oz. Captain Morgan Sherry Oak Finish Spiced Rum
¼ oz. Grand Marnier® Liqueur
¾ oz. lime juice
2 dashes of bitters
Add all ingredients to an ice-filled rocks glass. Stir to blend and garnish with lime wedge.
2 ounces Shellback Silver rum
1 ounce fresh lime juice
1 ounce simple syrup
Fresh, seasonal fruits and berries
In a shaker muddle fresh fruits with the simple syrup, add fresh lime juice and Shellback Silver rum; shake with ice until well blended. Double strain into a chilled cocktail coup. Garnish with a thin slice of lime and fruit of your choice.
2 parts Cruzan® Passion Fruit Rum
2 parts Pineapple Juice
1 part Lime Juice
1/2 part Honey Syrup
2 Pineapple Chunks
Fresh grated Cinnamon
Combine all ingredients in a blender with 1 cup of ice and blend for 20 seconds. Pour into a cored pineapple and garnish with fresh mint. Note: Slice the top of the pineapple off a half-inch from the top. Core the inside of the pineapple. Don’t have a pineapple corer handy? Core your pineapple with an ice cream scoop! Make sure you don’t scoop all the way to the skin or your pineapple will leak.
1 part BACARDÍ Gold® rum
3 parts cola
2 lime wedges
Fill a tall glass with cubed ice. Squeeze and drop a fresh lime wedge into the glass. Pour in BACARDÍ Gold® rum and top with chilled cola. Stir gently and top with remaining lime wedge.
1 Scoop Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum Ice Cream
1.5 oz. Sailor Jerry Rum
Abita Root Beer
Add one scoop Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum ice cream. Add 1.5 oz. Sailor Jerry Rum. Fill glass with Abita Root Beer. Garnish with pretzel rod and serve with spoon and straw.
