With the weather beginning to warm up that means a lot of the weekly, monthly series you enjoyed last spring/summer will be slowly making their returns. The Sunset Lounge, which takes place on the rooftop of Atlanta restaurant Shout, is one series that will be launching this Sunday (March 25). And from the looks of the video they’ve released promoting the series I’m sure they’ll be plenty of Ciroc and Peroni to go around.
Gummy bears, birthday cake, marshmallows…yes these are all sweets you’ll find at a toddler’s birthday party, but oddly enough those are also the flavors of various vodka’s. Years ago it seemed like vodka was merely flavored with fruits: coconut, raspberry, lemon, etc. Eventually though more unique flavors were added thanks to various vodka brands. Yea, it was pretty cool at first. I personally think that any “whipped” flavored vodka is the bomb diggity, but the flavors of course began to get out of hand. I won’t name names, but I’m sure we all know an absurd vodka flavor when we see one.
I hate to pick on Van Gogh’s PB & J Vodka, but it just so happened to be the vodka I came across which triggered the whole “has flavored vodka gone too far” debate for me. I’ve definitely seen far worse than Van Gogh’s PB & J Vodka and quite frankly I’m a little bit curious as to how it tastes. But seriously though if I see a pickle-flavored vodka or a Pop Tart-flavored vodka I swear I’m going to hit up the Russian’s about this. And you know they don’t want to see their beloved vodka pimped out like this!
If there ever were two things that go hand in hand it is hands down cocktails and snacks. So it seems only right to provide you guys with both a delicious cocktail recipe and a dip recipe to celebrate National Chip & Dip Day which happens to be today! Hooray! Hooray for chips and dip! Today’s drink recipe for National Chip & Dip Day comes courtesy of Sauza Tequila and is the recipe for their Blueberry-Pomegranate Margarita. And because they know you’ll be doing some serious snacking thanks to today’s holiday they’ve also provided a recipe for homemade guacamole and chips.
1 part Sauza® Tequila (Sauza® Silver Tequila recommended)
½ part Triple Sec
1 part fresh lime juice
1 part blueberry-pomegranate juice
Blueberries for garnish
Combine ingredients with ice in a shaker. Shake hard: Strain into a margarita glass with fresh ice. Garnish with fresh blueberries. Read more
Last night (March 22), I had the opportunity to check out the screening of HBO’s newest series “GIRLS” and it turned out to be quite the good time. The screening took place at Atlanta’s King Plow Arts Center and prior to taking in two episodes of the 30-minute show attendee’s snacked on fresh popcorn and enjoyed cocktails, beer, and wine. I actually tried my hand at a whiskey and ginger beer cocktail for the first time, which I hear is quite popular, and it was pretty darn tasty.
“GIRLS” is being promoted as kind of an anti “Sex & The City,” but there’s quite a few similarities between both shows if you ask me. For instance they both consist of four women living in New York City and both shows seem to focus on one central character as the voice of the show. The verdict on “GIRLS” is still up in the air for me, but I definitely laughed enough to tune in again. “GIRLS” will premiere on HBO on April 15 at 10:30 P.M.
Later this year “Cocktails In The Garden” will celebrate its 10th anniversary when it kicks off in May at the Atlanta Botanical Garden in Midtown. The weekly event will pair the whimsical scenery of the Atlanta Botanical Garden with cocktails that fit the garden/plant theme of each month. The theme for each month is as follows:
May: Azaleas and Aviations
June: Hydrangeas and Honeybees
July: Crape myrtles and Coladas
August: Tomatoes and ‘Tinis
September: Orchids and Old Fashioneds
“Cocktails In The Garden” will be held every Thursday of the month from 6 to 10 p.m. Admission to the event is $18.95 and will include one free-drink coupon for the cocktail of your choice. (Members of the Atlanta Botanical Garden receive free admission) And if you’re feeling a little Lushworthy after that courtesy cocktail, cash bars will also be available during the event.
If you won’t be in Miami this week for the Belve Music Lounge (don’t worry I’m in the same boat) here’s yet another reason to gloat on your misfortune. Belvedere Vodka will actually be serving up cocktails made with their new Belvedere Lemon Tea during their three-day long Belve Music Lounge. As an Atlanta resident it’s only natural that I love sweet tea so this new Belvedere Lemon Tea sounds absolutely delicious. The cocktail which features Belvedere Lemon Tea is actually called the “Belvedere Turntable Teabreeze” and consists of Belvedere Lemon Tea, cloudy apple, and coconut water. Other cocktails to be served at the Belve Music Lounge include the “Belve Beat” and “Belvedere Lemonade Power Mix.”
Can’t wait to try the “Belvedere Turntable Teabreeze?” Well, Belvedere Lemon Tea will be released in April so you don’t have to wait too long to get your hands on this cocktail.
